A safe work software solution, SageSURPASS, developed by Sage Technology has been recognised in Australia’s premier technology innovation awards program.

SageSURPASS was an award winner in the Industrial Application Category at the 2010 Victorian iAwards and named as a finalist in the national awards at this week’s presentation ceremony in Melbourne.

The iAwards are hosted by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA).

Jaala Pulford, Parliamentary Secretary for Industry and Trade, represented the ICT Minister at the awards ceremony and gave high praise to the outstanding talent on display.

"These awards recognise the fantastic innovations that Victorian companies are making in the ICT space and showcases the enormous talent that is the reason why Victoria leads the nation in ICT," Ms Pulford said.

Awards were made in 14 different categories ranging from Export to eLogistics and supply chain to Sustainability and Media and entertainment.

The Industrial Applications category recognises ICT innovation that delivers improved outcomes in industrial processes or activity. It may be any application of software and/or hardware that enables engineering automation, improves the effectiveness of product and service development or increases efficiency and productivity.

Ms Bertoli congratulated the software development team which was responsible for building a stable, user-friendly system which is also capable of managing complex business rules.

SageSURPASS is a web-based safe work software product which integrates the typically disparate but related functionality of:

  • Permit to Work
  • Isolation management
  • Hazard identification
  • Risk management

SageSURPASS is based on world’s best practice for permit to work, isolation and risk management but also allows enterprises to apply their own business rules, workflows, user roles, approval points, terminology, searching and reporting via configuration and without requiring coding. It is one of the most flexible out of the box systems in this space.

The extensive configurability options built into SageSURPASS enables it to meet the different requirements of a wide range of industries such as oil and gas production, power generation, petrochemicals, mining and minerals processing, and manufacturing,  while still enforcing safe work practices.

SageSURPASS saves lives, time and money. The Graphical User Interface is intuitive and easy to use while the system delivers powerful, tangible benefits in the areas of safety, productivity, efficiency and compliance.

SageSURPASS is already in use in onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities and power generation plant where the key benefits derived include:

  • Inbuilt risk management tools that ensure a consistent application of risk identification and hazard control
  • Enforcement of safe workflows by preventing users from taking unauthorised actions or bypassing critical safety steps
  • The ability to define different workflows according to permit/certificate type
  • Ability to capture and manage lessons learnt to improve safety processes
  • Auditable records
  • 24/7 solution  availability
  • Efficiency gains at multiple stages
