E-Commerce Case Study

Sage Technology developed an e-commerce system for an educational textbook supplier

The client approached Sage Technology with a project to implement a distributed information system that allowed for coordinated online construction of booklists, and remote processing of parcel delivery and payment.

This system was needed to reduce cycle times for booklist modification, by being highly interactive and easy to use, and to automate the physical booklist production process, all in a managed online environment.

After tenders were sought from various suppliers, Sage Technology  was chosen to undertake the development of a web systems using B2B technology to overcome distances between the schools and the book supplier and the supplier and their regional offices.

Utilising these web systems, schools are able to construct and manage their booklists for each school year level.

The book supplier can automatically produce booklists and quantify the resulting booklists for purchasing and delivery.

The system maintains information extracted from the schoolbook supplier’s corporate systems, and uses remote data consolidation to ensure the web systems reflect an exact replica of the internal databases systems.

The web systems are protected with SSL Secure Sockets and a username and password security system with 4 levels of authorisation implemented across the web systems.

Being the first to market with a non-paper based booklist system, our client has a competitive market advantage, by offering an easy to access and utilise system for their customers, and have significantly improved their processes through reduced cycle times.
